God's Window

"Stand at the edge of forever with breathtaking panoramic views."

About the Experience

Perched on the Drakensberg escarpment, God's Window offers one of the most breathtaking panoramic views in all of South Africa. This iconic viewpoint gets its name from the seemingly endless vista that stretches across lush valleys, towering cliffs, and distant horizons – truly a view that seems to go on forever.

Located just 10 kilometers from the charming town of Graskop, God's Window provides awe-inspiring views of the Lowveld lying more than 900 meters below. The majestic cliffs plunge over 700 meters to the forested ravines and private game reserves that have made this area one of South Africa's premier wildlife destinations. From this vantage point, you can observe hills and forests as far as the eye can see, creating the illusion that you're looking through a window to eternity.

God's Window is part of a 250-kilometer stretch of sheer cliffs and extraordinary beauty along the Blyde River Canyon. The main viewing area is easily accessible from the parking lot, but for the truly spectacular experience, venture beyond the crowds into the misty Rain Forest. A steep stepped footpath along the edge of the escarpment leads to the best lookout points and exotic forest plants.

The Rain Forest trail is challenging but rewarding – it's very humid and extremely steep, but the journey through the clouds to the upper viewpoints is unforgettable. Along the way, you'll discover unique flora adapted to this high-altitude environment and possibly spot rare birds, including the elusive Knysna loerie.

The area around God's Window offers numerous fantastic walks, hiking trails, horse riding, and mountain bike trails. Curio stalls and toilet facilities are available at the parking area, making this a comfortable stop for travelers exploring the Panorama Route or combining their Kruger National Park safari with scenic Mpumalanga attractions.
