"Go completely off-grid on one of the most exclusive safari experiences in Africa."
The SANParks Wilderness Trails are one of Kruger's most sought-after and exclusive experiences — and for good reason. They are deliberately remote, deliberately small, and deliberately stripped of modern comforts. Two armed and deeply experienced Field Rangers guide a group of no more than eight guests through pristine, untouched sections of Kruger where vehicles never go.
You sleep in basic but comfortable accommodation at a permanent trail camp — usually a tented or thatched hut without electricity. Mornings begin before dawn: coffee, a rusk, and then four to five hours of guided walking through the bush. Afternoons are free for rest, birdwatching from camp, or quiet reflection. Evenings are spent around the fire under a sky full of stars.
There are currently seven designated trails in Kruger, each in a different section of the park and offering a distinct landscape experience:
Places are limited to eight guests and trails run on fixed weekly schedules. Demand is extremely high — especially for peak season slots — and waiting lists of six months to a year are not uncommon. Book as early as possible directly through SANParks.
Four nights at a basic but comfortable trail camp. Morning walks of 4–5 hours, afternoons at leisure, evenings around the fire. Meals are provided. Physical fitness is required — expect to walk 10–15 km per day on uneven terrain.
Most of these activities are accessible from major camps or nearby gates. Talk to our concierge or visit the SANParks reception at your camp.
