If you want to strip away the marble floors, air conditioning, and plunge pools of modern luxury safari lodges and return to the roots of a traditional African safari, Shindzela Tented Camp is the place. Located in the Timbavati Private Nature Reserve (which shares an unfenced boundary with Kruger), Shindzela focuses on the wilderness itself.
The camp consists of simple but comfortable canvas safari tents set on wooden decks, with en-suite bathrooms (featuring open-air showers). The camp is entirely solar-powered, meaning no noisy generators and dim, romantic lighting in the evenings. Because the camp is unfenced, wildlife frequently walks right through the grounds between the tents.
Shindzela offers a very intimate experience with a maximum of just 16 guests. While they offer excellent 4x4 game drives, they are also highly regarded for their morning walking safaris, allowing guests to track animals on foot and learn about the micro-ecosystems of the bush.
