"The birthplace of the conservation safari."
Londolozi is not just a lodge — it's a movement. The Varty family pioneered the responsible conservation safari experience here in the 1970s, and the legacy runs deep. Tree Camp, the most intimate of Londolozi's five camps, offers six stilted treehouses on the banks of the Sand River, providing extraordinary wildlife access and an almost spiritual connection to the bush.
Londolozi (a Zulu name meaning "protector of all living things") was the property where the modern concept of the conservation-focused luxury safari was born. Dave and Shan Varty recognized in the 1970s that wildlife would only survive if local communities had economic reasons to protect it, and they built Londolozi around that philosophy decades before it became mainstream.
Tree Camp is the most exclusive of Londolozi's camps — just six treehouse suites elevated above the Sand River on wooden platforms, connected by raised walkways. At night, the sounds of the bush rise from below: crickets, frogs, occasional lion calls, and the persistent grunting of hippos. The suites themselves are elegantly understated, leaning into natural materials, vintage safari furnishings, and a warm, personal atmosphere that no other lodge quite replicates.
The Londolozi concession is a leopard paradise. The famous Londolozi leopards (a leopard dynasty photographed here for more than 40 years through multiple generations) are among the most studied and photographed leopards in the world. The guides here have an intimate knowledge of individual animal behavior that is genuinely unmatched.
Staying at Londolozi is as much about philosophy as it is about luxury. The Varty family's vision of "Reloved Earth" — the coexistence of people, wildlife, and nature — runs through every aspect of the experience.
Farm-to-bush cuisine with fresh produce from Londolozi's organic garden. Meals are served in the boma, on river decks, or at intimate bush locations chosen by your ranger.
Londolozi is a founding member of long-term conservation initiatives in the Sabi Sand. The Varty family's Londolozi Collective actively restores ecosystems, employs from local communities, and runs the acclaimed Londolozi Wildlife Academy.
